ABHaber’in KKTC Kurucu Cumhurbaşkanı Rauf Raif Denktaş’ın vefatı dolayısıyla Avrupa Komisyonu’ndan bilgi istemesi sonrası Avrupa Komisyonu ABHaber’e yaptığı yazılı açıklamada ’Avrupa Komisyonu’nun Genişleme ve Komşuluk Politikası sorumlusu Stefan Füle’nin Denktaş ailesine başsağlığı dilemek için kişisel bir mektup gönderdiği aktarıldı. Füle, ayrıca Eroğlu’na da taziyelerini bildirecek.

Rauf Denktaş'ın Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun 30 yılı aşkın bir süre liderliğini yaptığını ve hayatını ona adadığını belirten Stefan Füle bu çerçevede Kıbrıs’ta BM’nin yürüttüğü müzakerelerde kalıcı çözüm için desteğini yineledi.Füle, bu bağlamda New York’ta Ocak ayı sonunda yapılacak zirvenin hayati olacağına da değindi.

Avrupa Komisyonu’ndan ABHaber’e gönderilen yazılı açıklama şöyle:

''Commissioner Füle is sending a personal letter of condolence to the family of Mr Denktas.

He is also about to express the condolences to the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Mr Eroglu.

Mr Rauf Denktash has been the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community from more than three decades (1973-2005)

He had dedicated his life to the cause of the Turkish Cypriot community.

I would also at this occasion state that the Commission reiterates its strong support to the leaders of both communities in Cyprus and the UN Secretary General to urgently bring about a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem. The upcoming meeting in New York will be crucial in this regard.''
